NTT DATA Group Open Source Square Launched

NTT DATA Corporation (President and CEO: Toru Yamashita) today announced the immediate launch of a portal site, NTT DATA Group Open Source Square (http://sourceforge.jp/projects/nttdatagroup-oss-square/wiki/FrontPage(External Link)), serving as a one-stop venue for the open source software (OSS) made available by the NTT DATA Group. Featuring the largest collection of OSS of any vendor site in Japan, it introduces OSS programs with a proven record in commercial systems.
Among the OSS offerings are the second installment of TERASOLUNA®Framework series, an application development platform which NTT DATA started releasing as OSS last year. These are the TERASOLUNA Batch Framework for Java and TERASOLUNA Server Framework for Java (Rich Client Edition).
Launch of NTT DATA Group Open Source Square
The NTT DATA Group offers numerous OSS-related products, including PostgresForest® released in March 2004 and the TERASOLUNA Framework series appearing first on November 29, 2007 as an open source software. Others are the Ajax framework MaskatTM, the system administration tool Hinemos®, and TOMOYO® Linux for implementing a secure Linux environment.
Through the NTT DATA Group Open Source Square, NTT DATA is providing information supporting development of systems that use OSS. It is hoped that collection and provision of information as described below will encourage wider use of OSS.

Features of TERASOLUNA Batch Framework for Java
TERASOLUNA Batch Framework for Java is a framework for batch applications, embodying the accumulated expertise of NTT DATA on Java batch processing. TERASOLUNA Batch Framework for Java can merge online applications and batch applications not just at the language (Java) level but also at the framework level, enhancing productivity and ease of maintenance. Moreover, the framework provides processing models for a wide range of variations, such as transaction models, I/O types, and error handling routines, facilitating high-quality system development.
Features of TERASOLUNA Server Framework for Java (Rich Client Edition)
This is a server framework based on and extending the Spring Framework, an open source Java framework used in numerous projects worldwide. Like the TERASOLUNA Server Framework for Java (Web Edition), already released earlier as OSS, it defines such key business application functions as database access control, log output, and exception handling, which can be arranged freely, while also providing functions such as XML message passing that are geared to rich clients.
Coming Developments
NTT DATA will continue to promote comprehensive solutions making use of OSS, and to step up OSS-related business plans in areas such as system development and support. Through the development and release of open source software, moreover, the NTT DATA Group is taking an active part in the OSS community both in Japan and abroad, exchanging feedback, and contributing to the healthy growth of the OSS community.
