NTT DATA CORPORATION
NTT DATA CORPORATION, through its subsidiary NTT DATA Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd (President and Chief Executive Officer: Ryoji Fukaya; Head office: Singapore; hereinafter referred to as “NDAP”), reached a final agreement on December 26, 2011 to acquire 51.4% of shares of Accellence (Thailand) Limited (CEO: Tanakorn Kalayanamit; Head office: Nonthaburi (a suburb of Bangkok), Thailand; hereinafter referred to as “Accellence”), a company chiefly involved in the development of card business processing systems for financial institutions in Thailand, and around the end of January 2012, to make the company a subsidiary.
The move opens NTT DATA a gateway to establishing a firm foothold in the card and payment business in the growing Thailand market, as it aims to combine NTT DATA’s solutions and know-how in the card and payment field acquired through service provisions including CAFIS® and Accellence’s renowned card business processing systems for financial institutions and their strong customer base, to co-offer multiple advanced-and-competitive electronic payment services. This collaboration will accelerate the further expansion of its card and payment business in Thailand, and in the Asia-Pacific region.
NTT DATA GROUP has set targets for overseas sales at 300 billion yen and the ratio of overseas sales at 20% for the March 2013 quarter as part of its medium term management plan, and is actively working to expand its presence overseas. The group has focused on expanding one of its core businesses, the card and payment field, chiefly within the much anticipated Asia-Pacific region.
Today, Thailand is one of the fastest growing markets for the card and payment business in the Asia-Pacific region, with the number of credit cards and debit cards issued and used increasing year after year. Furthermore, the central government and the Bank of Thailand have been implementing policies aimed at increasing the uptake and convenience of credit cards for electronic payments in regional areas. The number of new credit cards issued to government financial institutions, and small and medium financial institutions is expected to increase drastically into the future. The increasing demand for card business processing systems for financial institutions, and the growing demand for card payment terminals at retail distributors and installation of electronic payment networks is expected to lead to a major business opportunity in the card and payment field.
Making Accellence a subsidiary opens NTT DATA a gateway to establishing a firm foothold in the card and payment business in the much anticipated Thailand market. By blending NTT DATA’s solutions and know-how in the card and payment field acquired through service provisions including CAFIS and Accellence’s strong customer base and their reputed highly versatile card business processing systems for financial institutions, NTT DATA is expecting to co-create a number of leading-edge competitive electric payment services.
Accellence, an independent business that provides card business processing systems for financial institutions in Thailand, has established a firm position with a leading share based on the number of credit card users of financial institutions already operating within the Thailand card business processing system market. Now, Accellence is seeking further improvement to the functionality of its card business processing systems, while providing value-added services in markets related to card payments as a way of expanding business even further.
NTT DATA is seeking to develop business synergies leading to further expansion of business in the card and payment field in the Thailand market and the Asia Pacific region by utilizing the combination of NTT DATA’s IT solutions centered around the CAFIS, with Accellence’s card business processing systems for financial institutions and their strong customer base.
