NTT DATA Corporation (Head office: Toyosu, Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Toru Yamashita) is collaborating with Oracle Corporation Japan (Head office: Kioicho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takao Endo) on development of solutions incorporating Oracle AIA (Application Integration Architecture) (Note 1), Oracle SOA (Note 2), Oracle GRID (Note 3), and Oracle VM (Note 4) in products composing PRORIZETM, the NTT DATA system platform building solution.
PRORIZE, geared to open source systems, provides preconfigured and pretested combinations of system hardware, software, middleware, etc., as highly reliable system platforms, eliminating the need to perform such configuration and verification each time a system is built, and enabling high-quality platforms to be put together in a short time. The addition to the PRORIZE lineup of Oracle's products, which are in high demand as system platforms, is expected to give the project a strong boost.

Background

Corporations must do business in a constantly changing and diversifying environment. To deal with the accelerating pace of business and the rapidly shifting business challenges, IT systems need to be more sophisticated and complex, yet need to be built in a short time frame. These same quality and time issues must be solved in building system platforms.
The diverse knowledge involved in building system platforms, originally acquired individually in each of the system development projects of customers, has been incorporated by NTT DATA in PRORIZE in the form of standard architectures and standard selections of vendor products. PRORIZE multivendor solutions consist of preconfigured and pretested combinations of products, chosen based on the technologies adopted. Taking advantage of a strong network of vendor alliances to resolve interworking issues between vendor products, high-quality system platforms are developed and total support is provided throughout the system life cycle, from development to operation and maintenance.

Oracle Japan through its collaboration with NTT DATA is looking to boost the presence of such products as its Oracle AIA, Oracle SOA, Oracle GRID, and Oracle VM on the Japanese market, as well as improving its earnings.

Overview of the Development

In developing systems for its customers, NTT DATA looks for the optimal combination of products for each customer, a selection process that currently involves evaluating the products each time and integrating them into a system platform. DBMS and other Oracle products have become a core part of numerous such system development projects. By developing PRORIZE solutions that extensively adopt Oracle products, NTT DATA should be able to match the system platform needs of large numbers of customers, as well as fundamentally improving development process efficiency.
The new PRORIZE solutions will be developed to take advantage of the functions of DBMS, SOA and other Oracle middleware while adopting configurations that adapt flexibly to changing customer needs.
The development schedule calls for provision of a model adopting Oracle VM by March 2009, as the first stage of a PRORIZE virtualization platform model. Development of a model adopting Oracle SOA is expected to follow a similar schedule.

Through these development projects, NTT DATA and Oracle Japan are aiming to build a solid alliance, enabling speedy provision of high-quality system platforms along with full support, so that customers can continue using the products with assurance after the start of operation.

Further advantages of the partnership are the high development efficiency and operations efficiency offered by Oracle VM and Oracle GRID, as well as the opportunity to propose and implement IT platform modernization based on the Oracle global standards AIA and SOA.

Looking Ahead

NTT DATA intends to continue expanding the lineup of PRORIZE models, with a special emphasis on providing platforms for server consolidation and virtualization, in order to make available models for a greater diversity of platform needs.
Along with PRORIZE, NTT DATA offers Prossione® (Note 5) and PORTOMICS® (Note 6) as solutions based on provision of standard preconfigured, pretested system platforms that are adapted to individual system needs. The three-year sales target for system building applying these three solutions is 10 billion yen.
