NTT DATA Awarded Contract by Public Transport Victoria, Australia, to Operate myki System
NTT DATA, Inc, a leading business and IT services provider, today announced that NTT DATA’s subsidiary, Payment Services Victoria, has been awarded a AU$700 million, seven-year contract by the State of Victoria, Australia, and Public Transport Victoria (PTV), to operate the smartcard ticketing system, myki.
The myki smartcard ticketing system was originally built by NTT DATA across Victoria’s metropolitan and regional centres commencing in December 2008. Today, myki is one of the largest mass transit smartcard ticketing systems in the world with over 12 million active smartcards in circulation and nearly 400 million customer trips completed each year. Since its implementation, NTT DATA has been committed to building and maintaining the current system while focusing on improving the myki customer experience.
“We take great pride in providing a stable and reliable ticketing system that enables thousands of people to travel on Victoria’s public transport system every day,” said Greg Purdy, SVP of NTT DATA, Inc. “Over the past 18 months we have made significant improvements to myki, including faster online top ups, the rollout of next generation gates and readers, and a trial of quick top up machines. We now look forward to being able to support the government in the development of future improvements that enhance myki.”
The new myki contract is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2017.
