Diversity management is crucial for a company seeking to achieve sustainable growth by generating innovation in response to the diversifying needs of society. With this in mind, NTT DATA promotes diversity and inclusion as one of its management strategies to succeed against global competition.

Our aim is to create new corporate values based on the two core concepts of advancing diverse human resources and changing work styles.

At NTT DATA we place real significance on creating an environment where a variety of different voices are encouraged and heard. These voices come from people of different gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity. We respect the diversity of employees and maximize their capabilities to enhance corporate vitality.

We have won several awards for diversity and inclusion and best workplace in Japan, Germany, and the United States. Each year the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry presents its Diversity Management Selection 100 awards. In 2018 NTT DATA was presented with the ‘100 Selection Prime’ award, meaning we are one of the top two companies to demonstrate diversity management.

Women’s Initiatives at NTT DATA

In terms of gender diversity, NTT DATA have been succeeding in engaging more women in our workplace, supporting the active participation of female employees and creating a women friendly environment.

Our diversity and inclusion movement grew and resulted in WiN – Women inspire NTT DATA. It is an employee-led group across the globe, where female leaders connect with each other to proactively advance a more diverse and inclusive workplace to benefit all employees. Check out our video.

NTT DATA also participated in The Global Summit of Women, a gathering of 1,600 top worldwide female leaders in the finance and political fields, May 11th – 13th 2017 in Tokyo.

NTT DATA Germany’s Managing Director & CFO, Ilka Friese, was invited as a guest speaker. In addition, another 13 female leaders from NTT DATA overseas operation companies were also invited to attend the event, promising to tackle pressing gender issues and boost opportunities for women in business and leadership.

Minimize gender gap through education and activities

NTT DATA actively participates across the globe in providing education and activities to develop innovation potential in children and teenage girls. We believe that by providing support and networks for development of teenage girls, gender gaps can be minimized.

In taking part in the nationwide Girls’ Day, NTT DATA aims to encourage girls’ curiosity and inspire them to work in IT with hands-on experience. We wish to break the stereotype that IT is perceived as “typical male” work.

Similarly, NTT DATA also provides support for STEM*-related skills development to teenage girls across the globe, recently in particular Japan and Spain.

*STEM: an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics used in academic disciplines.
