Appointment of a PMC (Project Management Committee) member for Open Source Projects Apache Hadoop and Apache Bigtop

NTT DATA Corporation（NTT DATA）is pleased to announce that its employees, Masatake Iwasaki, has been appointed as a PMC member of open source project Apache Hadoop and a committer* for Apache Bigtop, and Kengo Seki as a PMC member for Apache Bigtop.

NTT DATA not only promotes the use of open source software but also actively participates in its development in order to make it safer and more convenient for customers to use. Hence, its employees have been appointed as a committers for Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark, which provide the platform for processing large-scale data, and the database software PostgreSQL, etc. Their development activities for Hadoop and Bigtop have been recognized by the community and led to the appointment of a member of PMC and a committer with anticipation for further contribution and engagement.

Mr. Iwasaki has been certified as “Advanced Professional(ADP) system” founded in December, 2018 and Mr. Seki is certified as “Technical Grade(TG) system” founded in October, 2019, both employees are engaging in each job with high expertise.

NTT DATA will continue to actively contribute in the Apache Hadoop and Apache Bigtop communities and will commit itself to enhance software sophistication and the quality improvement. Furthermore, NTT DATA will continue to focus on acquiring and training of human resources with high technological capabilities in order to achieve continuous activities in the field.

Significance of PMC member appointment

With the appointments of PMC members, NTT DATA employees are authorized to vote on the release of new version, to recommend a new committer, and to speak as community representative. Thus, it leads them to take the initiative in proposing a release with new features or fixing a critical bug, NTT DATA is able to further contribute itself to improving the software quality.

Future initiatives

NTT DATA provides feedback to the development community based on the knowledge acquired through the use of open source software, and actively engages in resolving issues and developing new features together with developers from all over the world. As a member of PMC, NTT DATA employees are committed to lead the Apache Hadoop and Apache Bigtop communities in order to promote software sophistication and the quality improvement. These appointments will give NTT DATA an opportunity to provide advanced system integration and support services to its customers at a higher level by utilizing its ability to solve problems and develop new features in cooperation with the development community.

（*）A committer is a major developer who is given authority to modify the programs during development or maintenance of open source software. PMC is the committees which manage the smooth operation of open source software development, usually selected among the committers by mutual selection.
