NTT DATA Singapore is sensitive to the current COVID-19 situation and the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) committee is taking active steps to support the less fortunate in our community during these difficult times. We hold the common belief that we should contribute meaningfully to help out the wider community in this difficult time.
We do not just see this as a one-off effort, but rather as something that we will continue to do as a company for the betterment of society. As the nation bands together to stand united against the social and physical impacts of the virus, we felt it was appropriate for us to give back to those in need.
In the past month, Singapore has seen a surge in the numbers of people affected by COVID-19, particularly in the Foreign Worker (FW) community, whose infection numbers had escalated rapidly due to their living facilities. Our CSR team rallied together on the May the 4th to pack calling cards for those currently recovering in hospital. The FWs were given with a small token of a pre-paid calling card to stay in touch with their family members who are far away from them at this time. This was put together in a care pack containing basic essentials for their daily use provided by the Hindu Endowments Board (HEB), a Statutory body of Singapore Government.
We were supported by our staff who donated generously in cash towards the cause. In total, 1500 calling cards were purchased and given away. We are very proud of this initiative, as it was a daunting task to put together in a week: from the inception of the idea, to aquiring the cards, packing and distribution. Our CSR team worked quickly to getting the cards and encouragement letters ready for delivery to HEB within a day. We feel this is a good example of Teamwork and putting people first, and has also strengthened our bond as colleagues.
We would like to thank everyone involved for their support in giving back to these affected workers who have helped us build our nation, and look forward to more of such CSR events to come.
