NTT DATA on importance of creating data-driven organizations, highlights Data Warehouses and Data Marts as business data management tools
Bangkok, Thailand – November 8, 2021 – NTT DATA (Thailand), the subsidiary of NTT DATA Corporation Co., Ltd., a global digital business and IT services leader, today announced outlines the design and establishment of an effective big data management system ideal for a data-driven era. It recommends focusing on data warehouses and data marts for data analysis that will enable better business planning and decision-making. It also proposes a strategy for transforming comprehensively into a data-driven organization.
Mr Hironari Tomioka, President and CEO of NTT DATA (Thailand) Co., Ltd. revealed that many organizations recognize the importance of and are moving towards digital transformation, yet they lack the capacity to manage huge volumes of data or conduct data analysis to add value to their business. These organizations therefore look for a tool that can help them develop a strategy and optimize data management. In other words, they aim to become a data-driven organization, using data planning, arrangement and analysis to develop a business strategy, enhance organizational efficiency in all areas, develop products and services and create a marketing plan that appeals to and meets customers’ needs.
Based on NTT DATA’s experience, many organizations start out with an approach that seeks to consolidate all their data sources in a single place, or a big data solution. Failure to develop a proper development plan will result in a trap where high volumes of data circulate within the organization, but they are unable to be analyzed for further use. Even though several organizations try to address this by adding data warehouse as the central repository of data and conducting data clustering for maximum efficiency and effectiveness, it is often found that data warehouses contain data for the entire company without an approach that will lead to any analysis for business decision-making, such as marketing analysis, sales analysis, production and operations analysis, etc. For this reason, data warehouses alone are inadequate as a data solution for an organization.
To enhance efficiency in data management, organizations should add data marts which are a subject-oriented database, small in size and inexpensive. One of its outstandings features is that a data mart takes less time to set up. A data mart is a subset of the data warehouse focused on a particular line of business, subject area or business function. It handles specific data such as sales and marketing data, procurement data, production data or logistic data and can provide a quick business solution. Data marts have been designed to enable fast data access by reducing data processing, minimizing conflicts in a multi-user system and enhancing the capacity to update data quickly. Data can therefore be used to make informed decisions, such as analysis of production cost for a product, efficiency assessment of procurement and purchasing for production purposes or analysis of consumer behavior to boost sales.
Development of a comprehensive strategy for a data-driven organization should begin with a data strategy with a clearly defined goal on data use. Two issues should be taken in account. (1) Data must be stored in a high-quality and extremely secure manner before a data management system is implemented. A suitable tool will help in data clustering to ensure data are ready to be used at all times. (2) A data-driven culture should be adopted in making business decisions, from the management level to employees in each sector.
NTT DATA provides analytics solutions for data optimization, which can add business value fully and comprehensively. These include data science, AI, big data management and business intelligence (BI). NTT Data offers consultancy services, builds strategies, supplies and installs systems for leading companies in Thailand, utilizing knowledge and experience gained from providing services to world-class companies, with an aim to steer Thai organizations towards sustainable success in the digital business world.
However, recognition of the importance of data – from storage to utilization – will accelerate the transformation into a data-driven organization. For example, the organization can conduct an inventory analysis on both raw materials and finished goods in a near real-time manner and a daily sales analysis by customer group and product group using a short amount of time. In addition, an analysis of production cost for each product, which used to take over a week, can now be completed in 5-10 minutes.
