NTT DATA (Thailand) underlines the potential of the automotive and auto parts manufacturing industry in Thailand with 5 key strengths. The country's strategic location is the hub of ASEAN region. The quality of machineries is recognized globally. There are efficient land and water transportation systems to transport the goods. The industry is fully supported by the government’s policies. It is also equipped with a technology to invest in 5G network. However, Thailand is currently being challenged by advanced and intelligent automotive technology such as autonomous vehicle. NTT DATA, therefore, suggests that investing in digital technology would create competitive opportunities as well as strengthening the industry in Thailand.

Hironari Tomioka, President & CEO of NTT DATA (Thailand), alleges that there is a strong confidence in the potential of automotive and auto parts manufacturing industry in Thailand because of the following 5 key strengths. (1) Thailand is at the center of the ASEAN region. It is the 11th largest car manufacturer in the world and the 5th in Asia, behind only China, Japan, India and South Korea. It is also a center of electrical appliances, electronic components and consumer goods manufacturing in the world. (2) Efficient land and water transportation systems, especially deep-sea ports, to export goods across continents are recognized on a global scale. (3) Thailand has long been the base of automotive manufacturing industry. It’s high-standard machineries, labor skills and production value are recognized. (4) Thai government has a policy to fully support the industry’s capability, for instance promoting Thailand to become the world's major production base for electric vehicles and components, with the aim to produce 1,051,000 electric vehicles by 2025. The policy also aims to develop its labor skills to attract electric vehicle manufacturers from around the world. (5) The country is fully equipped with modern telecommunication network. It is one of the first countries in the region to invest in 5G network in order to support the advanced technology.

However, at present, Thailand’s automotive industry is facing a challenge because the world is looking more towards advanced technology for the future of automotive innovations. Another challenge is the concept of "MaaS (Mobility as a Service)", which is being tipped as a new wave in automotive industry, consisting of electric vehicles, connected car, autonomous driving, etc. This concept is evolving along with technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G technology and IoT.

Automotive

“The industry need to align themselves with 4 important strategies to prepare for changes and create competitive opportunities. 1. Digital Supply Chain and Connected Manufacturing. This strategy will integrate technology and data to drive efficiency and effectiveness in both production and distribution. 2. Engaging the Changing Workforce strategy. This creates a positive employee experience by using data insights to improve the way of work and engaging with employees. 3. Customer Centricity strategy. This strategy uses customers’ insights and behaviors to design customer-centric products and services. 4. Digital Smart Products strategy. Developing and improving automotive technology in all dimensions from connectivity, AI enhancement in autonomous vehicles, electrification, offering a wide range of digital products compatible to the vehicles.”

Mr. Hironari added that transforming plans are being made, in the automotive industry, to increase the use of technology to make the operations more digitized. It will be focusing on creating innovations from the application of technology to design products that create new experiences to consumers. NTT DATA has been successful in collaborating with the world's leading automotive manufacturers to develop a platform collecting various information through “Connected Car” solution, further developing products and services that meet the needs of modern consumers, and moreover, enhancing the consumer experience with an extremely safe and energy-saving smart vehicle. The collaboration has also extended to the MaaS service initiative.

Automotive

Apart from innovations, the automotive businesses require Business Process Improvement (BPI). With the help of technology experts, businesses will enable digital transformation from planning roadmap, applying effective solutions to meet customer satisfaction and reduce the expenses, working time, and unnecessary losses.
